Your Mac information stays on your devices and in the private iCloud storage connected to your Apple ID. We cannot view that private iCloud information. NoLid has no separate user account or developer data server, does not sell personal information, does not show ads, and does not track you across apps or websites.
1. Overview
NoLid (“NoLid,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is an iPhone and Mac companion app that lets you monitor and control Mac computers signed in with the same Apple ID. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it goes, and the choices available to you.
You do not create a NoLid account. When your iPhone and Mac need to exchange information over the internet, the app uses the private iCloud storage already connected to your Apple ID.
2. Information saved in your iCloud
NoLid can save information in your personal iCloud storage so your iPhone and Mac can communicate when they are not together. It works in the same Apple account used on your devices. This information is not copied to or stored on a server operated by NoLid.
Depending on the features you use, your private iCloud storage may contain:
- an app-generated device identifier and the name of your Mac;
- device availability, battery/charging, display/lock state, uptime, storage, CPU/GPU/RAM, network activity, current Wi-Fi name, running-app names, app permission state, and Keep Awake state;
- remote commands, timestamps, and whether a command finished;
- your QuickDeck setup and temporary connection information needed to establish screen sharing;
- screen captures and camera captures that you specifically request;
- Terminal commands and results, including the working folder, Mac user name, and host name.
This information is used only to provide the features you request between your own devices. It is not used for advertising, analytics, profiling, or tracking.
Who can access it? The information is kept in the private part of iCloud connected to your Apple ID. Your signed-in devices can use it to run NoLid. We do not have a NoLid server that receives this information, and we cannot browse or read it.
3. Information kept on your devices or local network
Local settings
Preferences such as schedules, alert settings, battery thresholds, QuickDeck configuration, watched applications, local-network consent, and other feature settings are stored locally using Apple system storage.
Audit log
The Mac app keeps an audit log locally in its Application Support folder. It may contain action type, timestamp, device identifier, and limited action details. The log is capped at the 60 most recent events and is not uploaded by the current app implementation.
Saved Mac password
If you enable remote unlock and choose to save your Mac login password, it is stored locally in the macOS Keychain and used only to perform the unlock action you request. Face ID is evaluated by Apple's LocalAuthentication framework; NoLid receives only whether authentication succeeded and never receives your biometric template.
Files and downloads
File listings and files you explicitly request are transferred directly from your Mac to your iPhone over the local-network connection. Downloaded files may be temporarily stored by iOS so you can save or open them. NoLid does not upload those file contents to a developer server.
Direct connection
On the same network, status, screen, input, camera, file, and command traffic can travel directly between your devices. Local API requests require an app-generated bearer token. WebRTC media is encrypted in transit. If you voluntarily configure a third-party TURN server, that service may relay encrypted WebRTC traffic and process connection metadata under its own policy. TURN server URL, username, and password are stored in the iPhone app's local preferences.
4. One-time purchase
Apple processes the one-time App Store purchase. NoLid does not receive your card or bank details. We use a purchase-management provider called RevenueCat to check whether Premium is unlocked and to restore the purchase. We do not send it your name or email address or create a custom user profile. It may process an automatically generated anonymous app identifier, basic device information, Apple receipt data, and purchase status solely to provide purchase functionality.
Purchase information is not used for advertising or tracking. Details are available in RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
5. Permissions
NoLid requests access only for features that need it:
- Local Network: discover and connect directly to your Mac.
- Screen Recording: display or capture the Mac screen.
- Accessibility: perform mouse, keyboard, app, and system actions you request.
- Camera on Mac: capture an image only when the camera feature is requested.
- Location on Mac: macOS requires location authorization to reveal the current Wi-Fi SSID. The app does not read, store, or transmit latitude or longitude.
- Face ID: authenticate sensitive remote actions on iPhone.
- Notifications: receive CloudKit change notifications and alerts.
- Files and folders: access the home-folder or mounted-volume paths needed for file browsing and downloads, subject to macOS permissions.
You can change these permissions in iOS or macOS Settings. The associated feature may stop working when permission is disabled.
6. Retention and deletion
- CloudKit device-status records remain in your private iCloud database while the app uses them.
- The app automatically limits CloudKit screen captures and camera captures to the 10 most recent captures per device.
- Terminal-result records remain until you use the Terminal clear-history function.
- Executed command records may remain in private CloudKit with an executed status.
- The local Mac audit log retains up to 60 events.
- Local preferences remain until cleared or the app is removed. A Keychain password can be removed from the Mac app and may otherwise persist according to macOS Keychain behavior.
- RevenueCat and Apple retain purchase records according to their policies and legal obligations.
The iPhone app's “Clear All App Data” control clears that app's local preferences; it does not currently delete private CloudKit records, Mac-side settings, the Mac audit log, or RevenueCat/Apple purchase records. You can manage app data through your devices and Apple iCloud settings, clear Terminal history in the app, remove a saved password in the Mac app, uninstall the apps, or contact us for guidance. Because private CloudKit content belongs to your Apple account and is not available through a NoLid backend, we may not be able to access or delete it for you.
8. Security
NoLid uses Apple platform protections and reasonable technical measures, including app sandboxing, macOS Keychain storage for the optional unlock password, authenticated local requests, encrypted WebRTC transport, CloudKit access controls, and path validation for remote file access. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for protecting your Apple ID, device passcodes, Mac credentials, local network, and any third-party TURN configuration.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding personal information controlled by a service provider, including access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, or objection. Most NoLid data is controlled directly through your devices and private iCloud account. For purchase-data requests, Apple or RevenueCat may need to handle the request.
For help or a privacy request, contact digidevs1@gmail.com. We may need to verify the request and will explain when data is controlled by Apple, RevenueCat, or a third-party provider rather than by us.
10. Children
NoLid is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to a service we control, contact us.
11. International processing
Apple and RevenueCat may process information in countries other than your own under their respective terms, policies, and transfer safeguards. RevenueCat states that customer data is hosted in the United States.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when app functionality, service providers, or legal requirements change. The revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the app or App Store listing where appropriate.
